Karan Johar Addresses Gender Pay Gap In Bollywood, Reveals He Has Always Paid Male And Female Stars Equally
Wage disparity and gender pay gap have been some of the most debatable topics in Bollywood, with many B-town actresses having talked about the same. That it exists, is known for a long time, and actors such as Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan, Arjun Kapoor, and many others have even spoken up about it in the past. This is not just limited to Bollywood, even several Hollywood actors talked about it. Now, during a recent interactive media session, Karan Johar too addressed the gender pay gap in Bollywood.

At the recently held MAMI Movie Mela that took place in Mumbai, Karan Johar talked about the wage disparity in Bollywood, in an interactive media session that he hosted along with Kareena Kapoor Khan and Alia Bhatt. He said that there is a larger understanding of the economics of movies that is sometimes lesser known by the people who don’t know how the business functions. He added, “Many times, people make sweeping statements about these things. I'm the first person who'll always want to pay what is completely right, just, justified and valid. I've always done that. But I feel there is a larger understanding of budget versus the verticals that you sell on digital and satellite that are driven by different data." Karan Johar further added that he thinks many women deserve more money than men and said that it’s very subjective and cannot be just put in a strong slot. While I'm all for equality and am among people who are always about equality, when it comes to love or paying people, there are larger optics to look at," he added.

Karan Johar’s next project is his multistarrer Takht which stars Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, Janhvi Kapoor and Anil Kapoor.
